Payment revolution: <\/strong><\/p>\n Long ago, people bought and sold things face-to-face. A pair of shoes was bought from the shoe shop, paid for by cash and later by plastic card. Then came the online retailer, making it possible to buy things from far way without knowing the seller.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n As technology advanced this method has changed. Today, you can buy something from China without ever knowing the seller, which opened the door for fraud. For example when you buy a stock, how do you know the seller actually owns the stock? How do you know he won\u2019t take your money and run? And how does he know you\u2019ll actually pay for the stock?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Today\u2019s financial transactional system is not as strong as people think it is, as these transactions undergo a clearing procedure. Blockchain can replace this procedure, which makes transactions faster, cheaper, and more secure.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Soon, people will use blockchain to buy a car, TV-set, stocks, bonds, or real estate. Blockchain is an \u201copen ledger.\u201d It keeps track of transactions, just like an old-fashioned ledger on a clerk store\u2019s worktop. But his ledger is only for him to see, but not by the paying customer, in other words not equally secure for both transaction partners.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n An open ledger is different. It\u2019s visible to everyone involved in a transaction. Buyers, sellers, regulators, and anyone granted access could see the ledger. Everyone updates his or her copy of the ledger for this transaction, and then all parties compare ledgers. When there\u2019s disagreement about the content, the most shared ledger is accepted as the \u201ctruth,\u201d and the transaction becomes permanent. The ledger record cannot be changed unless all parties in the transaction agree to it; this whole process would take less than a minute.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Decentralised payment system:<\/strong><\/p>\n Blockchain is a decentralised payment system, because it takes the power out of the hands of a \u2018single\u2019<\/em> institution like banks.
